Qualifications Required : No previous qualifications required but applicants must be strong swimmers. A swim test will be required to test your swimming strength as part of the selection process.
Vacancy Full Description : As an apprentice you will be responsible for ensuring the comfort and safety of all users at the leisure centre and working towards your Apprenticeship in Leisure Operations and Leisure Management. You will also be required to provide customer service to the highest standard and you MUST be a strong swimmer.
There may be chance to train as a Senior Lifeguard during this apprenticeship.
Day to day duties:
- Maintain the vigilant supervision of those in the pool
- Carry out pool rescues, resuscitation and first aid as needed
- Building and being part of a successful and well-motivated team
- Providing an excellent level of Customer Service to Members
- To act in a professional manner at all times.
- Equipment setups safely and on time
To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer.
If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process, in order to be considered for the role you must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following.
• Jump/dive into deep water
• Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds
• Surface dive to floor of pool (deepest part)
• Climb out unaided without ladders/steps and where pool design permits

Working Week : 40 Hours Per Week Inc. Eves & Weekends
Weekly Wage : £326.80

Personal Qualities : What are we looking for in our apprentice?
Enthusiasm and a positive attitude;
Ability to work well in a team;
Good communication skills are essential as you will be dealing with the public;
A genuine passion and interest in health, leisure and fitness;
Skills Required : Apprentices must be strong swimmers as you will eventually be providing the supervision and safety for swimmers within the leisure centre. You must also be able to work well within a team and have a friendly approachable personality.
Future Prospects : Possibility of full time employment upon completion of apprenticeship.

Other Information : The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £4.15 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £6.45 an hour for 18-20 year olds, £8.20 for anyone aged 21 to 24 and £8.72 for those over 25. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). These rates apply from 1st April 2020
